A Co Clare man (52) was last night charged at a special sitting of Tulla District Court with the murder of his uncle, Jack Daly (82), at their home in Belharbour yesterday morning.

Sgt David Sheedy told the court the accused, Mr John McInerney, of Belharbour, has been under psychiatric treatment and was released from Our Lady's psychiatric hospital in Ennis two weeks ago.

Mr McInerney addressed the court and asked Judge Tom O'Donnell: "Can I go to the mental hospital in Ennis for treatment?"

Judge O'Donnell told him he did not have the power to do that and could only remand him in custody. Judge O'Donnell remanded Mr McInerney in custody to appear before Ennistymon District Court on May 7th.
