PRIMARY SCHOOLCHILDREN across Ireland are to put themselves on the map as part of Ordnance Survey Ireland’s 185th anniversary celebrations.

Ordnance Survey Ireland has launched a competition open to Ireland’s 500,000 primary school pupils which will introduce them to the art of mapping. “We are hoping that as many pupils as possible will take part in this competition because it will provide them with experience of geography, mapping and new technology,” said OSI chief executive Geraldine Ruane.  “The competition will also show what a wonderful resource our website is for both pupils and teachers.”

The competition will see children answer questions on mapping and geography. It will be run in two sections: a junior category for those up to second class, and a senior category for children from third to sixth class.

The closing date for entries is December 11th. Further information can be obtained from www.osi.ie
