The SIPTU president, Mr Edmund Browne, has condemned the British authorities' handling of the Roisin McAliskey case. Mr Browne said Britain's lack of sensitivity in handling the case "only provides succour to extreme elements who will happily use the spectacle of a young Irish woman handcuffed while giving birth in a high security British jail, for their own purposes".
