A brain-damaged man, described as "unfit for prison", has been remanded in custody by the Circuit Criminal Court with the recommendation that he be transferred to the Central Mental Hospital.
The 28-year-old Dublin man, who received serious injuries to his brain in an accident in 1997, pleaded guilty to larceny in 1998 and 1999.
Judge Frank O'Donnell said he had doubts as to whether the man had been fit to plead at the time, and said his mental status would have to be reassessed.
"I don't feel that I can sentence this man now," he said.
