Figures from easyJet show the success of the discount airlines is continuing, with Northern Ireland in particular taking to budget.
August passenger numbers were 1,696,378, up 142.9 per cent from 698,350 a year earlier.
The airline says these figures are for "earned seats" - which are paid for whether or not the passenger actually flies.
Its load factor - the number of passengers as a proportion of available seats - is up to 87.2 per cent, from 86.2 per cent.
The figures combine results from easyJet's recent acquisition, Go Fly.
Go's passenger numbers were 635,836, up 41.7 per cent from 448,804, while easyJet saw its numbers rise 51.9 per cent. The figures include a massive jump in the number of passengers it carries to and from Northern Ireland.
Belfast routes accounted for close to a fifth of the easyJet total of passengers for August this year, up from 10 per cent at the same time last year, said the company.
During August this year there was a 60 per cent increase in passengers compared with the same month last year - 161,100 passengers - with the airline filling 90 per cent of its available seats.
It was the 47th consecutive month of passenger growth on flights in and out of Belfast, said the company, with all routes experiencing double-digit growth.
