Members of the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland, have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action in pursuit of their campaign for higher staffing levels. When their executive meets early next month it is expected to endorse plans to boycott classes with more than 30 pupils, withdraw from National Council for Curriculum and Assessment committees and refuse to co-operate with Department of Education and Science pilot projects.

However, ASTI said in a statement yesterday that it was prepared to consider a proposal from the Minister, Mr Martin, for an independent expert review of the staffing system.
