AN unsuccessful Dail candidate has been suspended from duties as a child psychiatrist after being arrested by gardai while canvassing, a court heard yesterday.

Dr Peadar O'Grady (32), of Cameron Square, Dublin, was arrested by gardai at Lower Rathmines Road on May 17th for failing to leave a public place. He was later charged with assaulting a garda, disorderly conduct in Rathmines Garda Station and or abusive behaviour.

Defence solicitor, Mr Peter Mullan, asked for a strike-out in the case as the file was not ready although it was his client's fourth appearance in court. He said Dr O'Grady had been suspended from clinical duties because of the case a was under "enormous stress".

Sgt Anthony Burke told Dublin District Court the file was now completed and custody records along with statements would be sent to the defence.
