Michael Dempsey (48), Moylough, Co Galway, has spent two years trying to sell a bungalow worth about €320,000 at the height of the boom.

Now, with no offers to buy or rent and fearing he may have to board it up, the Co Galway truck driver is promising to consider all offers over €1. “It’s a beautiful new house with four bedrooms on three-quarter acres of a site. It’s a shame no one is living in it, and at this stage I just want to sell for whatever I can get,” he said.

Mr Dempsey said he built the house partly to provide income when he retired, but the collapse destroyed that plan.

“But the loan was secured against the house I live in so I’m free to sell this house for any price. I have the deeds to it and am genuinely willing to consider any offer over €1 at this stage.”

The house is at Gatestown, between Moylough and Mountbellew.
