A new website providing information on affordable homes around Ireland has been unveiled by the Minister for Housing, Urban Renewal and Developing Areas, Michael Finneran.

The site - www.affordablehome.ie- was set up at the request of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

It contains information from local authorities and the Affordable Homes Partnership, marketing affordable homes around the country on a single site, and it offers information on affordable home ownership.

Each local authority has a page on the website containing information on eligibility criteria and a copy of their application form. Information on the homes available in each area can also be found, including size, features and useful facts on the locality.

Later this year, it plans to facilitate direct applications for affordable home purchase.

"This new website will be an invaluable resource for everyone engaged in the development of affordable homes. The site will act as a direct access for prospective buyers to the affordable homes market," said Mr Finneran.

"It's a very positive move by the local authorities and the Affordable Homes Partnership that will assist home searchers everywhere."

Affordable Homes Partnership chairman Des Geraghty described the site as an "invaluable tool".

The website is also available in Irish, Polish, Lithuanian and Chinese.
