Algiers - Islamist extremists massacred 14 civilians in two separate attacks near Algiers this week, reports said yesterday.

A family of six was massacred overnight on Monday in the village of Halouiya south of Algiers, and another eight people had their throats slit in Ain Tagougrait, to the west of the capital, late on Tuesday, the reports said.

The killing in Ain Tagougrait, near Tipaza, about 70 km west of Algiers, brought to 22 the number of lives claimed since Saturday.
