New cycling routesThree new looped cycling routes were launched recently in the North Tipperary area. The new cycling trails vary in distance from 11km to 67km and suit all levels, from beginners to enthusiasts. The routes, which are clearly signed and mapped, give access to the Lough Derg shoreline and lakeside villages and associated facilities. Nenagh is the hub for all the routes and full details are available on large map boards that have been placed at 11 locations along the loops. Maps and brochures are also available. www.shannonregion trails.ie.

Peregrine Falcon WatchDid you know that the world's fastest animal is the peregrine falcon, reaching 300km/h during its hunting dive? The Glendalough valley is home to a pair of peregrines and staff from the Wicklow Mountains National Park plan to set up telescopes to view the birds tomorrow (Sunday) between 10am and 5pm. Signs at the Upper Lake car park will direct people to the viewing area. Because viewing is weather dependent it is advisable to contact the information office at 0404-45425 to confirm that the watch will take place. Booking is not necessary and the event is free of charge.
