The Morton family, owners of landmark pub Lamb Doyles on Blackglen Road, Sandyford, Dublin 18 has come back with another proposal for the site.

They are submitting a new planning application, looking to redevelop the pub and build apartments on its grounds.

They were refused planning permission last month by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to demolish and rebuild the pub and build 41 apartments and two shops.

The reason given by the local authority was that the design would be visually unappealing, and the development was not high quality in terms of architectural merit, and would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.

Many of the 13 objections were concerned that the five-storey height of the development would dominate the two-storey developments in the area.

This time around the proposal is for the same number of apartments (41), as well as two retail units and a pub in three blocks ranging from three to five storeys. There would also be 148 car-parking spaces at ground, mid-basement and basement level and new entrances on Woodside Road and Blackglen Road.

The original two-storey pub dates to the 1870s but was rebuilt in the 1960s. The current owners, the Morton family, bought it in 1992.

They have said they will be using the apartments to fund the €5.5 million redevelopment of the pub and restaurant.
