CO WICKLOW:NEW HOMES sales appear to be picking up in the commuter town of Delgany, Co Wicklow, according to local agent Gordon Lennox of Lennox Estates.

Bidders competed last week to buy a handful of houses still for sale in Delgany Wood, at prices far lower than at the peak of the market in 2006. Delgany Wood is a scheme of 250 homes first launched in 2001.

Four bidders chased a showhouse at 1 Wendon Drive, which sold for a little over the asking price of €450,000 last weekend. It would have cost €750,000 at peak. Two other bidders went after a detached four-bed which made close to the asking price of €595,000 yesterday.

Three other houses in the scheme have sold recently for between €435,000 and just over €600,000.

And while most housebuilders have scaled back completely, Townpark Estates will release two new four-bedroom semi-detached houses – likely to cost from around €450,000 – in the scheme just after Easter.

Townpark has also got approval to build eight detached four-bedroom homes in a cul-de-sac off Convent Road in Delgany, in the grounds of an older bungalow, Glendale, and may launch them off-plans in autumn, according to Lennox.
