One of the great Irish country bars, Morrisseys of Abbeyleix, and the adjoining four-bedroom house is expeced to make around £1.25 million (1.59m) when it is sold by private treaty through John P Younge. The bar, which has a turnover of around £10,000 a week, has changed little since it was rebuilt in 1880, five years after it opened in a thatched house. It has been family-operated since the start and has been run for the past 68 years by Patrick Mulhall who is now retiring. Four years ago it was offered for sale without the house but was withdrawn from the market. Morrisseys also has a funeral undertaking business.
