Trust Sybil Mulcahy, the smart, sassy and svelte TV3 presenter, to fly the flag, so to speak, for Action Breast Cancer. This particular fundraising initiative she is helping to promote involves a collaboration between Curves, the women-only fitness clubs, and the Irish Cancer Society.

Discard your unwanted brassieres at your local club and, based on the amount collected, Curves will make a donation towards research into a disease that affects one in every 10 Irish women. Of course, it may also prompt women who are not already members to sign up for exercise and healthier dietary habits, both important factors in the defence against cancer.

Weight Watchers’ success is based on joining a group of fellow travellers for shared reality checks; Curves operates on a similar premise. With more than 50 local clubs across Ireland, it provides monitored and measured 30-minute circuit sessions, ideally three times a week, to encourage a steady level of fitness. Check out curves.ie or freephone 1800-932800 should you wish to recyle your underbeneaths for a good cause.
