AILBHE MALONEsigns up for advanced studies in Beyoncé
TRACK OF THE WEEK: City Lightsby A*M*E
For such a wintery February, it's nice to have a little sparkle. A*M*E is 17 years' old and originally from Sierra Leone, now living in London and hooking up with wunderkind MNEK (remember, he wrote The Saturdays' All Fired Up?).
City Lightsis basically about going out and having some fun and all the rest of it. She's also made a fanzine thingy, which is pretty fun and recommends Barry M glitter and all other brilliant things. If you're interested, check out this link to download it: issuu.com/officialame
While we're never against giving to charity, spare a thought for those who Jessie J decided to help the other day. Speaking to the Sun, Jessie explained that "I get given a lot of clothes and I don't always like them, so I give them to homeless people or to local charity shops. There are some cool homeless people who are kitted out around my area now." We're not sure how useful a unitard would be, but perhaps it's a good layering tool. If you're into looking like Jess, she also noted that "the charity shop near where I live has loads of my clothes in the window. We walked past and all my friends were liking these gold shoes and I screamed, 'Well, they are mine!'."
If you feel like going back to school, students of Pop Corner will be off to a flying start at Rutgers University in the US. They’re launching a new course titled: ‘Feminism: Politicising Beyoncé’. However, it’s not about listing Destiny’s Child lyrics, or Beyoncé facts, explains the school. “This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.” Okay, so it’s a bit snore, but if they let us give a guest lecture, we promise we’ll show YouTube clips.
