Frames and Swell Season frontman Glen Hansard will be the opening act of The Longest Night, the annual gig organised by the Dublin Simon Community, the charity that helps homeless people. The gig will take place at Dublin’s Button Factory this coming Monday, with Hansard opening the show at 8.30pm with an acoustic set.
Gemma Hayes, who will headline the evening, told The Ticket she was “delighted” to take part: “The Simon Community work tirelessly to help those in need, so playing a few songs to raise awareness is the least I can do.”
Hansard’s fiddle-playing Frames bandmate Colm Mac Con Iomaire, singer- songwriter Fiona Melady and Dublin power-indie band Codes will also perform.
“It’s been a crazy year for us with the release of our debut album and a nationwide tour,” said Codes lead singer Darragh Anderson, “and we can’t think of a better way to end the year than to support the Dublin Simon Community.”
The charity, which celebrated its 40th year in 2009, is also organising a 24-hour Christmas carol-a- thon on Grafton Street, which kicks off on Sunday and will run until 21st – the longest day of the year.
