Irish silver may draw bidders at Blackrock

Irish silver may draw bidders at Blackrock

Although next Tuesday's auction at Thomas Adams of Blackrock, Co Dublin contains furniture from the Georgian to Edwardian periods, bidders may show more interest in the small selection of Irish silver, including some examples of provincial work. A pair of George II silver candlesticks, for example, is believed to have been made by Richard Sawyer of Dublin and, therefore, carries an estimate of £1,800-£2,000.

Lower prices are expected for a pair of Cork silver spoons by Carden Terry and a Georgian silver sifter spoon by Michael Walshe of Limerick, both lots carrying the same estimate of £400-£500. An Irish silver dish ring from the early part of this century, and in the rococo style, should sell for £700-£900.

Among the furniture lots is a Victorian mahogany extending dining table (£1,000-£1,500), a mahogany grandfather clock from the same period (£700-£900) and a Georgian linen press (£700-£900).
