A spokesman for the embassy of Bulgaria advises that Bulgaria has now "closed" nine chapters of the 32 chapters of laws and regulations governing entry to membership of the EU. Monday's report headed "Nice Treaty mainly about preparing EU to accept new members" said it had closed six.

Monday's Sport on Television column referred to the Liverpool team in the FA Cup Final in 1995. The year was 1996.

The photograph that illustrated an article yesterday on the award of an honorary degree to President George Bush by Yale University actually showed him at a ceremony in Notre Dame University the previous day.
