The beautiful Firkin Crane Centre in Shandon in Cork, which was developed for the defunct Irish National Ballet Company, is strengthening its position as the country's only dedicated dance centre. Mary Brady, who was Dance Development Officer at the centre, has just been appointed Artistic Director. Robbie McDonald, who was Chief Executive, is taking the lesser role of Company Secretary. He has been appointed Administrator of the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton. In addition to pioneering educational and community work, the Centre has put together an enticing programme. Daghda, Irish Modern Dance Theatre and Dance Theatre Of Ireland will all visit in the next couple of months, while the British Random Dance Company will present Millennarium in early May, their first date this side of the Irish sea. There is also an exciting programme of workshops.
