AN IRISH company that began producing healthy ready-made meals last year has confirmed that Tesco is the fourth major retailer to stock its products.

The Slender Choice range was inspired by Karen Daly after she lost four stone and then quickly realised there was a shortage of ready-made meals that were not full of fat and still tasted good.

Based in Dundalk, where Daly also began a branch of Slimming World, she and her husband, Frank, worked with local producers on a range of ready meals, sausages and burgers.

“We love good food but we wanted to be healthy too and our philosophy is around having a big taste but a small waist,” said the mother of two.

The pair declined funding on Dragons’ Den earlier this year and have now partnered with former Armagh GAA star and current Kildare senior football manager Kieran McGeeney. Ten months into their business, they have turned over €150,000 and believe they are on target for a €1 million turnover by the end of next year.

Following the most recent contract, their products are now available in Tesco, as well as in Superquinn, SuperValu and Dunnes Stores.
