At least one person, who understands the strategic implications of information technology should be appointed to the boards of growing Irish companies, a new study has recommended. The study on corporate governance conducted by Dublin-based strategy consultants, Prospectus suggests that information technology has been badly neglected by the boards of most companies outside the IT sector. It recommends that every board while it does not have to feature the company's IT manager should at least have one director who appreciates the competitive advantages IT can offer.
These include faster entry into new markets, a lower cost base and better understanding of customer purchasing habits.
