MR Bob Gibson resigned as managing director of Scottish Mutual International in Dublin last week, after just six weeks in the job.

Mr Gibson, the former chief executive of National & Provincial Life in Edinburgh, took up the offer of running Scottish Mutual's new venture in Dublin after Abbey National took over N&P.

He sold his home in Edinburgh and moved to Dublin with his wife go be and two young children. However, after six weeks he is back in Edinburgh and understood to be looking for a new job.

When contacted by The Irish Times Mr Gibson declined to comment on his departure, but Scottish Mutual said he left "because we couldn't come up with a deal that would suit both of us."

Mr Stephen French, former financial controller at Scottish Mutual International, has taken over as acting managing director.
