One of Ireland's leading insolvency experts, Mr Paddy McSwiney, is retiring as a full-time partner at accountants BDO Simpson Xavier. Mr McSwiney, who is the liquidator of the Taylor group of companies, will leave his post next May. He will continue to act as a consultant to Simpson Xavier for another five years.

Mr McSwiney has been with the firm for 10 years. He is making the move because he wants to take a more active role in running companies. He is currently a director of several firms including Boss Trucks and Corporate Image Holdings and he also has a number of property investments and is a part-owner of a sandwich bar.

Mr McSwiney has been with Simpson Xavier for 10 years, having begun his career in Stokes Kennedy Crowley, now KPMG, and feels the time has come for a change.

He said that although he would remain closely associated with the firm, he would have the professional freedom to apply a broader range of skills to a number of companies. "In this regard, a number of opportunities have already arisen," he said.

Several of the companies he will work with are, in fact, clients he introduced to the firm. When Mr McSwiney started in Simpson Xavier - he came to the firm as a partner - it had 30 employees and three partners. It now employs 30 partners and has 280 staff in Dublin, Limerick and Belfast.

BDO Simpson Xavier managing partner, Mr Anthuan Xaiver said Mr McSwiney had achieved a huge amount for the firm and had built one of the top insolvency units in the country. "Even though he is not leaving us for almost five years I still want to thank him for all he has already done and wish him well on his new career path."
