The Irish arm of UK-owned Homebase sustained pretax losses of €36.6 million last year after incurring impairment charges of €38 million due to the downturn in the retail sector.

In accounts just filed, Homebase House and Garden Centre Ltd recorded the loss to the end of February last after its turnover dropped by 2 per cent from €69 million to €67.5 million.
