Job applicants could soon find themselves being interviewed by computers with new jobs won and lost over the Internet, recruitment experts warned this week.

Delegates at the Institute of Personnel and Human Resources conference in London were told that electronic recruitment is the way of the future.

Mr Graeme Wright, director of media and research at recruitment consultant Park Human Resources, said: "Whether we like it or not and many people understandably do not this process is inevitable. It is going to make the whole process of recruitment a lot more flexible and diverse.

"People are already beginning to question if there is any need for a CV when a machine can interview the best candidates."

Mr Wright believes the rise in PC ownership will open the way for more jobs to be advertised on the World Wide Web and for more applicants to apply by email or visit a company's Website to carry out an online interview.
