Paris CAC-40: 4047.88 (-47.15)
The Paris Bourse booked a substantial loss as the CAC 40 index gave up 1.15 per cent to end at 4,047.88 points. Operators said a rally that marked the early part of the session had fizzled out, particularly because of uncertainty on Wall Street. Trading was on the active side, with volume of 12.9 billion francs on the monthly settlement market.
Milan MIBTEL: 24063 (-83)
Italian shares closed near the day's lows in listless trading after Wall Street erased its opening gains. Bank shares starred, bolstered by strong first-half earnings and continued merger speculation.
