A publication which will no doubt be of interest to Irish operators - and investors with money to spend - is due out next month. A new report entitled Mobile Market Leaders will be published by Analysys, a telecoms consultancy group based in Cambridge.
It profiles 30 of Europe's leading mobile operators, promising to provide a comprehensive insight into their performance, market position, strategy, services and future plans.
Sadly, neither Esat Digifone nor Eircell are counted among Europe's 30 leading mobile operators, although the Republic's market is said to be the fastest growing in Europe. Among those profiled are BT Cellnet, Sprint PCS, Telia Mobile - whose parent is a shareholder in Eircom - and Orange.
The inclusion of Orange, which bid unsuccessfully for the third Irish mobile licence, should be of interest to Meteor, which won the licence but has not been awarded it yet. This is because Orange appealed the decision and the High Court found that the office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation had been guilty of objective bias. The court sent the matter back to the regulator for reconsideration. She, in turn, has appealed the case to the Supreme Court and it is due for hearing next year.
No doubt Digifone and Eircell will also be looking at the report for tips on how Orange operates and for information on developing trends in the marketplace.
