Central Bank legislation is to be brought into line with Europe, following the publication of the Central Bank Bill 1997.

The bill was published yesterday by the Minister for Finance, Mr McCreevy. The main focus of this bill is on the technical issues related to the compatibility of Irish Central Bank legislation with the Treaty on European Union and the statute of the European System of Central Banks.
