Allied Irish Banks and Bank of Ireland yesterday joined an international group which is developing a secure system for online payments.

In separate statements, the banks said they were joining Identrus, which aims to create a world network of financial institutions that can certify corporate customers as trusted online trading partners. Its members include Deutsche Bank, Bank of America and Barclays.
