FAI National League, Premier Division/Waterford Utd 0; Longford Town 0: Most of the action in this strangely dull affair at the RSC took place in the second half when it always looked as if one goal would be enough to claim the points.

Waterford United's David Mulcahy headed against the upright on 57 minutes while, at the other end, a Barry Ferguson header was taken off the line by Alan Reilly following a corner from the left by Philip Keogh.

One minute from the end, Longford almost snatched victory when defender Brian McGovern headed against the crossbar from yet another corner by Keogh.

The first half was an evenly contested, tame affair although both sides had opportunities to open their accounts. Patrick Mulvihill (first minute), Shane Barrett (18th minute) and Seán Francis (26th minute) all tested Waterford goalkeeper Dan Connor while Mulcahy (fifth minute) and Neal Fenn (24th minute) were the Waterford players who went close.

This was United's fourth successive game to be unbeaten but, in recent times, Longford have proved to be a bogey team for Waterford.

Waterford experienced a draw and a defeat against them in their two previous league games this season and they were also dumped out of the FAI Cup by the midlanders for the third time in four years.
