WITH THE intriguing clash between All-Ireland champions Meath and Dublin on the horizon, it is appropriate that one of the most extraordinary championship ties in the history of the game is being recalled.
The 1991 tie between the two teams at the same stage went to four matches before being decided in favour of Meath. An equalising goal by Kevin Foley was followed by the winning point from David Beggy in the last minute, as extra time loomed again.
Now Telefis na Gaeilge is to screen that decisive match and followers of both counties, as well as the many other thousands who attended the matches, will have an opportunity of re-living that extraordinary climax to a championship meeting which set all kinds of records for the GAA.
The total official paying attendance at the four matches was 237,377. Meath's aggregate score was 6-44 (62 points) and Dublin's 3-52 (61 points). When the final whistle was blown, the teams had completed 340 minutes of football.
The match, with a special introduction by Micheal O Muircheartaigh and with the original commentary, will go out at 10.30 on TnaG on Thursday night.
