RUGBY:SOUTH AFRICA coach Peter de Villiers is expected to face a grilling later this month when his employers review his team's performances so far in 2010.
The Springboks ended their home international season with a fifth loss of the year out of their 10 games played by going down 41-39 to Australia in Bloemfontein.
It also spelt the end of a disastrous Tri-Nations campaign in which the world champions and holders ended with the wooden spoon.
A statement from the South African Rugby Union (Saru) read: “The annual review of the Springboks’ performance in the Vodacom Tri-Nations will be scheduled as per normal with Springbok coach Peter de Villiers for later this month. The review will include all aspects of Springbok performance.”
Another major issue expected to be raised is De Villiers’ recent comment regarding Bees Roux, the Bulls player arrested and charged with the killing of 38-year-old Pretoria policeman, Ntshimane Johannes Mogale.
The Springbok boss offered support to Roux last week without mention of the deceased’s family, saying at the time: “We definitely talked about Bees Roux. We feel for all South Africans and especially rugby players.
“A situation like this could happen to anybody. People are ugly outside, they’re dirty and they try and use everything to stop us from bringing hope to the people out there. It’s a tragic situation and we wish it upon nobody. The team supports him 100 per cent. Not on the deed, but . . . how the situation developed.”
Saru president Oregan Hoskins said, “There would be formal discussions with the coach about some of his reported comments”.
Hoskins confirmed he had written to the family of Mogale to express the union’s support and condolences.
