LEAGUE OF IRELAND: Sligo Rovers 1, Dundalk 3

FOUR FORMER Sligo Rovers players came back to haunt their old club at the Showgrounds on Saturday night. Darren Mansaram, Liam Burns and Chris Turner scored a goal each with Harpal Singh setting Burns up for Dundalk’s second. “A great win and a good night overall,” said Dundalk assistant manager Joe Miller. “It was important to get the second goal as Sligo were well in the game at that stage.”

Owen Morrison missed a chance to open Sligo’s account on 28 minutes, ballooning the ball over the Dundalk bar with goalkeeper Chris Bennion off his line. Mansaram broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when the ball went in off his knee.

A Romauld Boco effort after six minutes of the second half drifted over Bennion’s bar and Singh was inches away from doubling Dundalk’s lead after 57 minutes, the ball eluding him at the post.

Seán Connor, who was serving the first of a four-match touchline ban, saw his side go two in front in the 65th minute with Liam Burns heading home from Singh’s free-kick. Chris Turner put the game out of Rovers’s reach in the 75th minute.

Rafaele Cretaro pulled the goal back for the home side on 77 minutes but their luck was out two minutes from time when Morrison’s penalty kick was tipped away to safety by Bennion.
