Russian victory decisive

Russia ended Ireland's hopes of a respectable placing here yesterday.

Despite taking a 13th minute lead, the Russians responded with three goals before the interval. Second half scores from Joury Safonova and Vassili Sourouda settled the tie.

Although there is still a Pool A fixture to be completed against Poland today, Ireland will be playing off for ninth to 12th positions at the weekend.
