PICK OF THE WEEK

MONDAY - Channel 4, 8.0 pm - "Fair Game" - Return of the investigative-cum-magazine sports series, with tonight's programme focusing on the ferocious competition between soccer clubs to find the next Ryan Giggs or Roy Keane. It should ring a bell with many Irish families with soccer-mad kids who are promised the sun, moon and stars but find out reality is something different.

WEDNESDAY BBC 1, 10.20 pm - "Sportsnight" - And just to prove there are more French superstars apart from Eric Cantona, Bordeaux seek to overcome a 2-0 deficit from the first leg in the UEFA Cup Final. Can they join Paris St Germain, who won last week's Cup Winners' Cup title, on the winners' rostrum?

UTV, 10.30 pm - "Euro `96: The Countdown" - Pity about the clash with Sportsnight, but you can always tape this one. Bob Wilson, John Barnes and Alex Ferguson begin the countdown process to the European Championships with a studio debate and analysis.

THURSDAY BBC 2 2.10 pm and 4.0 pm - "Live Golf" - The first real big tournament of the PGA European Tour, the Benson and Hedges International, live from The Oxfordshire in the heart of William Shakespeare country. Coverage each day until Sunday.
