The remaining Irish bids of Olympic sailing dinghy class places got off to a mediocre start in the qualifying regatta at Murcia, Spain this weekend. In the 470 women's class, former Europe class sailor Denise Lyttle is in 11th place in her new double handed class with Louise Cole as crew.

Ireland's single handed Europe, class representative, Aisling Bowman is currently 17th in the 26 boat class, while Belfast's John Driscoll in the single handed Finn was in a disappointing 21st out of 24.

Meanwhile, Mark Lyttle in the Laser class was in action at the World Championships in South Africa where he slipped to 59th in the 133 boat fleet last night.
