The homeside led by 0-11 to 0-7 at half-time but it was Offaly’s Thomas Carroll who raised the first green flag of the afternoon to cut Kilkenny’s lead to just two points.
Carroll’s strike with a little over 20 minutes remaining gave Kilkenny food for thought before Walter Walsh, Canice Maher, James Cassin and Ger Aylward goaled.
