IRELAND and Wales will tattle to avoid the ignominy of taking home the wooden spoon from the Women's Home Golf Internationals at Longniddry in Scotland today after both teams had failed to register a point once again in their matches yesterday.

The series will be decided today when Scotland tackle defending champions England in the final match. Scotland produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Wales 5-4 to give themselves an excellent opportunity to clinch the series for the first time since Aberdovey in 1991.

England clawed their way back into contention yesterday from an opening foursomes loss to beat Ireland 6-3 and move level on points with Scotland.

Douglas golfer Eavan Higgins celebrated her tooth international match yesterday as Ireland got their title bid back on track with an impressive opening foursomes victory.

Higgins helped Monkstown's Ada O'Sullivan record a vital 2 and 1 victory over opponents Emma Fields and Kim Rostron. That point helped edge the Irish 2-1 ahead.

Earlier, Kilkenny's Eileen Rose Power and Milltown's Suzanne Fanagan lost the first match of the morning by one hole to Curtis Cup player Elaine Ratcliffe and Karen Stupples.

Alison Coffey, of Warrenport, and Michelle McGreevy, of Rossmore, defeated Fiona Brown and Joanne Hockley by 3 and 1 in bitterly cold and windy conditions. But any chance of Ireland repeating their last win at Whittington Barracks in 1986 was wiped away when they were defeated 5-1 in the singles by England.
