DAX: 3887.39 (+32.63) The electronically-traded German IBIS DAX index broke a key level at 3900 for the first time in after hours trade with Wall Street's help. It also closed just off its intraday record high of 3944.34 and traders were setting their sights on 4,000 within the next few weeks.60.50 marks before settling up six at 59.

CAC-40: 2936.98 (+27.53) The Paris Bourse bounced back from a bout of weakness on Wednesday, but traders said the Bourse had become more vulnerable due to government intentions of increasing taxation of business or of well-off classes. Traders said the Bourse was sustained mainly by the dollar's firmness and a strong Wall Street.

Mibtel: 13603 (+109) Italian shares closed below an earlier high as investors took profits on telecom stocks although banks were still at the centre of attention while a record run on the bond market also gave support.
