Sir, - From the evidence of Graham Caswell's letter (June 2nd) regarding the packaging used by fast food chains in Ireland, it seems to depend on the country in question.
In Finland's fast food outlets, both foreign-owned and indigenous, cardboard is used for burger and drink containers. Disposable wooden knives, forks and spoons are dispensed. I have never seen styrofoam used in any such outlets in Finland, possibly because there is an environmental law prohibiting use of such materials. Comparison suggests Ireland's fast food chains have a laissez faire attitude to the environmental impact of packaging materials used. - Yours, etc.,
Niall O'Donoghue, Tampere, Finland.
