Madam, – I was at the Gilbert O’Sullivan concert in the Olympia Theatre on March 10th. I was in the Upper Circle and while I knew I wouldn’t be able to see the blue of his eyes, I thought at least I would be able to hear him clearly. I was wrong. The sound was appalling, so much so that Gilbert left the stage after the third song, complaining that he was unhappy with the sound and had to do something about it.
We waited for about 15 minutes, during which no one appeared on stage to tweak, adjust or check the sound. He came back, said he would do his best to continue and asked the audience to help him out. Were it not for the songs we all knew so well and joined in on, we would not have heard a single word Gilbert sang for the whole night.
The fire safety announcement was clearer than the performance.
I don’t know whose fault it was, but it was totally unacceptable. I complained to management, along with many others, but the night was spoiled and I expected so much more from a renowned artist and a reputable venue. – Yours, etc,
