Sir, - Cardinal Ratzinger is in error in suggesting that the Roman Catholic Church is the authentic voice of Christianity. There is one Catholic (i.e. universal) Church, under the Headship of Christ, divided into many denominations, of which Cardinal Ratzinger's church is but one. No one denomination has a monopoly on the truth.
The Church of Ireland bishops have expressed concern and disappointment at Ratzinger's words. Like many members of the Church of Ireland, I am appalled and offended by the sentiments expressed but not surprised at them. I know that many ordinary, decent Roman Catholics feel the same. - Yours, etc.,
