People living in Blackpool in Cork, we are told, can save 85 cent on a packet of headache tablets by travelling in to Patrick Street (The Irish Times, December 3rd).

On radio and in the press in recent weeks, the director and her staff have highlighted similar savings on items including CDs and tins of beans. She has also spent tens of thousands of pounds on an advertising campaign that tells us to check prices before we buy.

When will the director's paymasters figure out they can make big savings by not allowing her to spend money on stating the obvious?
