Sir, - You are always urging Protestants to speak out in this "pluralist society", but when the undersigned attempts to do so, you do not publish his letters. Why? Because they are not on the themes you have authorised for discussion. This attitude of yours is highlighted in your splendidly impudent leader of June 15th. Firstly, you tell the new Church of Ireland Archbishop the three themes (none of them spiritual!) on which he should pronounce. Secondly, you criticise his predecessor for not joining in the Divorce Campaign. Does it occur to you that the issues you trumpet may be of very limited interest to Protestants?
If you are really concerned with a pluralist society may I suggest that, instead of telling people what to think and discuss, you give up authoritarianism (where did you learn it, surely not in Ireland?) and listen to what they do have to say. Hopefully Protestants can contribute to Irish society; but to be told how, when and where is a negation of everything that we might contribute. - Yours, etc.,
