Sir, – As an Irish person living in France, I find the publishing of the photos of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, simply disgusting and a very cruel and perverse invasion of privacy.

Nonetheless, you might want to further balance your reporting and remind your British and general audience of the horrible tactics of the UK tabloid press. It seems to me a little too easy to fuel anti-French and anti-Irish sentiment when surely it can be said that the British invented tabloid, amoral, trash press, setting a most unfortunate standard for press across the world.

Is it so easy to forget that in the recent past the UK tabloid press ran a front page picture of a naked Carla Bruni at the time of the first visit of then president Nicolas Sarkozy with his wife and first lady of France, to the UK and the queen.

I think that the greatest service the British press could render to the royal couple, would be to drop this “story” very quickly. The constant reporting is fuelling the unfortunate affair out of all proportion and is, as the “palace” commented on the Irish press, simply motivated by greed. – Yours, etc,
