Madam, - As the carnage on our roads increases despite the introduction of penalty points for speeding, it surprises me that nobody has suggested the deterrent used in Germany.
As well as incurring automatic penalty points for an offence, a driver can have his or her licence withdrawn for several weeks or months. The driver experiences the inconvenience of alternative transport. The period of withdrawal corresponds to the degree of the offence.
Monetary fines or punishments will not have the same immediate "sting". I think it is worth a try. - Yours, etc.,
