Madam, - Angela Long's exhaustive complaints about consumerism and "things people don't need" (Opinion, July 31st) convinced me of one thing we can certainly do without: her self-aggrandising, conveniently retrospective and ultimately vacuous anti-retail therapy. Please, Ms Long, afford the cubs of the Celtic Tiger one last luxury in allowing us to trudge off and lick our self-inflicted wounds in peace! - Yours, etc.,
