Sir, – Media outlets have given much publicity in recent months to mixed martial arts events. In view of the unfortunate death of Joao Carvalho, they might now make amends by ceasing to publicise or report on any further MMA events. – Yours, etc,
MICHAEL WALSH,
Clontarf, Dublin 3.
Sir, –The Irish Amateur Boxing Association should be ashamed that it allowed its stadium to be used for this gratuitous MMA violence, because no matter what anyone says, this is not sport. – Yours, etc,
T GERARD BENNETT,
Bunbrosna, Co Westmeath.
Sir, – Thank you for the excellent article "Popularity of MMA no defence for legal killing" (April 13th). I live in New York and such MMA fights are currently illegal in our state. Alas, the state legislature has a Bill pending that would change that. I have been doing everything a citizen can do to convince the politicians that such things should not be allowed. In that regard, I have forwarded Johnny Watterson's well-written and well-reasoned article to my representatives in the hope that it will sway them against legalisation. – Yours, etc,
JERRY AVISSATO,
Utica,
New York.
