Sir, - The Pope visits Germany without paying respects to any of the great shrines to Protestantism there. It is like visiting a desert island and declining to look at the sea.
The Vatican announce the Pope will not lift excommunication from Martin Luther. It was little Luther feared of excommunication when he was alive. Since he reached heaven 450 years ago he must have laughed heartily.
But it is sad to see how vindictiveness rancour and spite still sour Rome's relations with a great Christian brotherhood.
